Our grade 9 students have been learning about setting, characterization, political systems and more. Each student has applied what we’ve been learning to a creative world they are designing. The first activity was to create their maps. Each student cartographer imagined and then created their maps using https://inkarnate.com/. With their maps created, it was time to imagine who might be living there. Students were given a table questionaire where they had to imagine different characteristics and demographic information.

With their worlds imagined, students went to work with characterization. Students were tasked with developing 3 character descriptions of individuals that would inhabit their worlds. These descriptions were then summarized and entered into https://nightcafe.studio/ for an Artificial Intellegence portrait, or https://www.heroforge.com/ where students could design and customize their digital portraits.
Each of these elements came together by designing a layout in Abode Illustrator, where students created their 2-page spread for inclusion in our World Building Atlases for each class. We are using a Blurb plugin https://www.blurb.ca/ for Adobe Indesign to create the final atlas for publication. We hope to publish beautiful coffee table books to share with students and our school community. We will also share the ePub of each atlas with our grade 9 families.
