Our SWJRH (Southwest Junior High) Grade 8 and 9 Foundations of Flight students took their learning to new heights this week with a game of drone hide and seek!
Ten objects were hidden in and around the school, including a picture of Albert Einstein, a classroom chair, a basket, and a numbered piece of paper. Working in teams, students used DJI drones equipped with cameras to search for each item from the air.
Each team had a pilot responsible for navigating the drone and spotters who helped maintain visual line of sight. As teams discovered the hidden objects, pilots used the DJI flight application and controls to capture photos as evidence and check items off their lists.
The activity gave students a chance to practise drone piloting, camera operation, teamwork, and situational awareness while exploring a familiar environment from a new perspective. It was a fun way to put their Foundations of Flight skills into action!
