Mechatronics Engineering 35
STEMIA High school
The Mechatronics Engineering 35 class visited SAIT Advanced Research to learn how they collaborate with industry to solve future of design problems. Students learnt how SAIT supports the design process from ideation, to optimization, to pre-production stages.
Students toured the Robotics and Automation Lab, where they learned about the research and development in the applications of 3D printing concrete house foundations with robotic arms, as well manufacturing complex components using a fixed laser and movable bed. Students also reinforced their CAD skills and model simulation in the Intelligent Design and Additive Manufacturing lab and learned about different powder metal alloys being tested with a 3D printing.
Lastly, students visited the Drone Lab and learned about the different applications and maintenance of drones, as well as the rigorous drone pilot training. Students interacted with lab researchers and learned of research opportunities they could pursue during their post-secondary studies.
