Beakerhead Event at Telus Spark

Get ready for an exhilarating weekend at Telus Spark on September 21 and 22, 2024, as the highly anticipated Beakerhead event takes center stage. This year, our school’s entrants are set to showcase their skills and creativity at the Hack the House competition.
The Hack the House competition presents a unique challenge, tasking participating teams with the exciting opportunity to ‘hack’ a piece of used household furniture, transforming it into a rideable machine capable of conquering a specially designed obstacle course at Telus Spark.
This is our second year participating in the event. Our team won the creativity award last year for our cordless drill powered recycling bin. Read about it here, and see a video of our “car” tackling the obstacle course.
Our entrants for this year include:

Couch Potato, which is a ‘hacked’ hoverboard turned into a beanbag chair with a coffee table for vegging out.
Barbie Beheader, which is a Barbie Powerwheels car modified to fun on an 18V drill battery cloaked in a gaming table with a game of Monopoly.
File Buggy, which is a dune buggy Powerwheels with upgraded motors and converted to 18V Ryobi battery power and wrapped in a file cabinet.
The challenge will begin on September 22 at 11am at Telus Spark. We hope that each of these vehicles are complete and ready for the day. Our student Skills Club has been working hard in the last school year and the first few weeks of this year to prepare and finish the builds.

“Beakerhead The biggest, STEAM-iest, explosive, brain-busting science spectacle in Calgary!” The Hack the House event is just one of many amazing spectacles happening on September 21 and 22 at Telus Spark.
