
Recently, our grade 8 students had an enlightening presentation by esteemed film director, Brock Davis Mitchell. Not only did Mr. Mitchell share his passion for the arts and film, but he also provided valuable feedback for the grade 8 student “Crash Course” video projects. This transformative experience left the students inspired and ready to explore their creative potential.
One of the powerful films shared during the presentation was “Piita Aapasskaan” which is about Kyle Young Pine, a Fancy Feather Dancer, and his journey to develop a deeper connection to his ancestors and his truest self.

Brock Davis Mitchell is a film director, producer, and cinematographer based in Otôskwanihk (Calgary Alberta). Working professionally in the Alberta film industry since 2007, Brock has been a partner of Deluxe Design Group since 2012.

Winning for ‘Best Short Form Documentary Director’ at the 2022 Alberta Film and Television Awards, Brock Davis Mitchell made his directorial debut through narrative music videos. Completing his first feature film ‘A Gentleman’ in 2018.
Mitchell’s work has garnered numerous accolades across the country including a 2020 Western Canada Music Awards nomination for ‘Video Director of the Year’, 2020 Toronto International Film and Video Award nomination for ‘Best Music Video’, to his more recent wins for ‘Audience Choice’ award at the 2022 Calgary International Film Festival and ‘Best Documentary Short’ at the 2022 Alberta Film and Television Awards.

The visit by film director Brock Davis Mitchell had a lasting impact on our grade 8 students, fueling their passion for the arts and film. Mitchell’s presentation and feedback empowered them to embrace creativity, explore diverse narratives, and develop their voices as emerging filmmakers. As our students continue to grow and nurture their artistic talents, they will fondly remember this transformative encounter, appreciating the vision and passion that Brock Davis Mitchell shared with them.
