STEM Innovation Academy had 8 students participate in the 2023 CEMC Gauss Mathematics Contest. Calder Liu was our top competitor missing only one question!

The Gauss Mathematics Contest is an annual event run by the University of Waterloo that aims to encourage mathematical thinking, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving among students in grades 7 and 8. The contest is named after the famous mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, whose contributions significantly influenced various fields of mathematics.

The Gauss Mathematics Contest typically consists of 25 multiple-choice questions, which students must solve within a specified time limit. The questions are carefully crafted to test various mathematical concepts, including number theory, geometry, algebra, and probability, among others.

The contest is designed to challenge students at different skill levels, ensuring that participants encounter problems that match their abilities. The questions are organized in increasing order of difficulty, allowing students to progress through the test while encountering increasingly complex challenges.

Pascal Mathematics Contest

Earlier this year we had a group of grade 9’s write the CEMC Pascal Contest, in which Jacob Lang and Natalia Banasiak scored in the top 25% of all contestants across Canada.

The Pascal Mathematics Contest is an annual competition designed to engage and challenge students in grades 9 and 10 in the fascinating world of mathematics. Named after the renowned French mathematician Blaise Pascal, this contest aims to foster a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, promote critical thinking skills, and encourage a lifelong love for the subject. In this blog post, we will delve into the significance and structure of the Pascal Mathematics Contest, highlighting the benefits it offers to young mathematicians.

These contests serve as a gateway to mathematical excellence for students in grades 7 to 10. By participating in these prestigious competitions, young mathematicians can deepen their understanding of the subject, hone their problem-solving skills, and gain recognition for their achievements. If you are interested in entering these contests in the future, listen for announcements in school or speak with your math teacher.
