Our grade 9 students hosted an exhibition of the novel study final projects this week. Students in grade 9 have been reading either Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson or Scythe by Neal Shusterman in class. They were tasked with developing a theme park design to share with an audience that would showcase elements from their novels. Students were provided choice in how they represented their park, and this decision was guided by the assessment rubric for the task and the necessity to share it publically.

Some students discovered https://icograms.com/ to create their maps which were then supplemented with descriptions for the different attractions. Several students used Minecraft or Roblox to build their entire theme parks, which made for engaging public presentations as vistors were able to ‘tour’ each of these parks.

We were excited by the diverse and creative student products shared at the exhibition. With these examples to build upon we are already looking forward to it again next year.
