Painting on Wooden Slices is fun! The artist will provide step-by-step instructions for everyone to follow, from painting the wooden slice to make it into magnet for a unique gift or a memorable keepsake. You have the option to choose your favorite Alberta Sky image to paint. Your instructor will guide you through to complete your unique art piece!
All the art supplies will be provided, including one wooden slice magnet for each guest to take home with; paints and paintbrushes for in-workshop use.

With click-and-go reading on the rise, protecting instructional time for deep reading in our classrooms is more important than ever. In this session we will explore approaches to cultivate joyful reading practices, discover opportunities for students to develop positive reading identities, and consider instructional decisions required to develop depth, stamina, and passion in adolescent readers.

Internationally-renowned author and consultant, Jay McTighe, will share ideas from two recent books, Assessing Learning in the Classroom – By Design (Teachers College Press, 2021) and Designing Authentic Tasks and Projects: Tools for Meaningful Learning and Assessment (ASCD, 2020). He will present five underlying assessment principles and examine a set of fundamental questions about the What?, Why? and How? of effective classroom assessment. He will examine various assessment purposes – Diagnostic, Formative and Evaluative – and review a framework of the various methods for gathering evidence of student learning. Jay will also offer a 3-part model for a more honest and communicative approach to grading.
The structure for this session will be a two-hour learning opportunity with Jay McTighe, immediately followed by a facilitated conversation with Charlie Kraig to help participants see the concepts in their own contexts and develop plans to move their assessment practices forward.
Assessment and Project Based Learning April 19, 2023 4:00-5:30pm

In this session will focus on supporting and developing the essential conditions for summative assessment as well as the creation of ongoing feedback loops to support formative assessment. We will look at rubric design to support task design and student outcomes.
Participants can expect to know how to create essential conditions for assessment when using project based learning to support student achievement. Participants will leave assessment practices, tools, tips and tricks to use in their classroom.
