Our grade 8’s were challenged to design and build a hydraulic system that would transport a golf ball 10 centimeters vertically and into a bucket. Students used our Design Process to identify the problem, research, design, build, iterate, and showcase their final solutions.
We were amazed at the variety, creativity, and complexity of some of the systems. Everything from elevators to excavators were built and a remarkable amount of the systems succeeded in the challenge. It was a great hands-on learning activity that engaged each group throughout the process.
